Want More Twitter Followers? Become Kevin Rose!

Anyone else find it ironic that Kevin Rose is giving out tips on how to get more twitter followers?  Considering the fact that he has founded 3 companies, is on the cover of multiple magazines, and has his own webs how; I’m not really surprised that he has 91,000 twitter followers, are you?  His 10 tips to get more twitter followers include:

  • explaining to your followers what retweeting is
  • filling out your bio
  • using hashtags
  • linking your twitter profile when you can
  • and 6 other tips that are sure to get you 91,000 twitter followers

To top things off, his post also made it to the front page of digg.

I was going to write a longer post on this, but I found that the comments on the digg article pretty much summed up everything I wanted to say, here are some of my favorite comments:

    Yesterday when the article was published to Techcrunch, I originally thought, “Yeah, this is pretty good advice for Twitter. Nothing too original, but it would probably help some people.” After I RT'd the article, I realized some of these same things that these comments are pointing out. How come I have done all of the things in this list, but I don't have tons of followers yet? (Because these steps are not what its all about). No, Kevin Rose did not get 91,000+ followers by following these tips he gave out. Jacob, way to have the courage to point this out .

    Really enjoyed reading the post about Kevin Rose's 88,000 followers but I don't really think Kevin has all those followers because of those “10 things” but that is only my opinion. Maybe I need to try a few of those tips and also follow Kevin.     Spot on post, Jacob, and typical of the “leaders” views on how to do things. Show me advice from people that no-one knows and how they use the site and grow relationships and I'll listen more. I find two of his suggestions particularly funny:

    7. “Start a contest to get to the top”. Right, since we all have MacBook Pro's to give away. And isn't that going against the whole community angle and being yourself?

    8. “Follow the top Twitter users and watch what they tweet.” Right, because everyone wants to be a robot with no mind or views of their own. And say I'm not a tech guy or a marketing guy – will I really want to follow Rob Scoble or Chris Brogan in that case? (As good as these guys are).

    Seriously, for someone that had thousands of ins as soon as he started a Twitter account, his “information” offers nothing new. Maybe he should go back to his Digg site and start looking after the users that made it what it is (or was) instead of banning their accounts for being too popular.
