Hi Maria,

Thanks so much for your comment. Of course, you are correct; consultants and agencies alike need to be able to guide their clients to make their organizations truly social. In order to get this done though you need to have a good understanding of business and how companies operate. This is one of the reasons why I think consultants (or whoever is working on a client project) need to have a business background. David does have an interesting concept behind social business design. He's focusing on a very important part of business but it's still only a part.

Thanks again for stopping by!

I think this is the most profound, honest statement I've read all year -- "I’m willing to bet that if you took 100 of these so called “consultant” folks and asked them to develop a strategy for a client that almost all of them would recommend the same set of tools but with slightly varied degrees of usage." I believe you're right on point in this post. I agree with you -- a very important aspect is measurement, but I also think consultants have a responsibility to take a business past the tactics of social media to the strategies and philosophies that will now change the entire way you do business. I love David Armano's concept of social business design -- because that's what it really is. If you can't get this deep with a business, you're really just a glorified techie or VA who is in way over your head :-) Just my two cents :-)
