Who are You Competing Against Online?
In the online market space, it is important to know what your competitive landscape looks like. This is especially crucial for SEO. If you are going to target particular phrases and keywords that you want your site to show up for, you need to know who is already showing up for them and how good of a job they are doing. Let’s face it, if you are a new shoe store that only sells Nike shoes, you probably don’t have much of a shot at ranking well for the term “Nike.” That is where keyword research comes in, but that is a topic for another post. Ok, so how do we analyze your competitive landscape?

Panel Discussion at Web 2.0, Everyone Agrees?!
Don’t get me wrong I had a great time at the expo and met a lot of great people. However, one thing that really irked me was some of the panel discussions. Let’s take the facebook marketing best practices panel. I do not remember all 4 panelists and the companies they represented but I think one of them was Avenue A. Jeremiah Owyang (from Forrester) was the moderator and did a good job.

Microblogging, Losing the Conversation and Watching it Explode!
I attended the panel discussion with Stowe Boyd, Jeremiah Owyag, Gregarios, and Brian Solis, called “Short attention span theater: The birth of microblogging & micromedia. What made this panel so exciting (apart from the great panelists) was that it included live audience participating via twitter. On the sides of the room giant screens displayed ‘tweets’ that were sent to @micromedia2 live during the session, eventually folks outside of the conference room began participating and adding in their own comments as well. This made for quite an interesting panel discussion indeed.

Branding, the Most Important Factor of
What are the most important factors that go into successful brand building. Actually, let me rephrase that. What is the most important factor that goes into successful brand building. Do you think it is your tag line, offerings, image, reputation, etc? Fifty years ago building a brand was much different than it is today. Fifty years ago companies relied on mass media such as television and radio to get the word out. Fifty years ago there was no yelp! there was no internet for us to look up product reviews and there was no social media. Fifty years ago companies launched a massive attack on our attention, we were bombarded with radio ads and television ads. People were being dumped into the top of the funnel, and many of us exited the bottom as customers. Do you really think this still works today?
